Tainan reads badly on a list and well on a map. The old city is a compact grid you can cross on foot in twenty minutes; Anping sits about five kilometres west on the coast; and the city's administrative boundary runs nearly fifty kilometres inland, which is why a district name alone tells you very little about how far away something is.

Distances here mislead in both directions. Chihkan Tower, the Confucius Temple and Shennong Street sit within a fifteen-minute walk of each other, so a first-time visitor needs far less transport than they expect. Guanziling, on the other hand, is a Tainan address and nearly fifty kilometres out, which is a real half-day.

This one is drawn from the site's own data rather than served from a tile provider. Every point is a surveyed coordinate geocoded against OpenStreetMap, plotted at true scale with the bay, the river, the parks and the street grid underneath it, so the distances you read off it are real, in metres and kilometres. The chips dim the groups you are not looking at instead of removing them, because a map that deletes the parks when you ask about shrines is no longer telling you where anything is.
